Image Licensing & Usage

Photography created by Steve Lenz is provided through Steve Lenz Photography. Unless a written agreement states otherwise, Steve Lenz Photography retains the copyright to the photographs and grants clients usage rights appropriate to their project.

Client Photography

Most of my photography is created for clients under an agreement that defines how the finished images may be used.

If you are a client, your individual license or client agreement controls your use of the photographs. Nothing on this page limits rights already granted to you in that agreement.

Usage may include websites, social media, advertising, publications, public relations, marketing materials, displays and other uses depending on the terms of the assignment.

Uses Outside an Existing Agreement

If you would like to use an image and do not already have permission, or would like to use an image beyond the scope of an existing agreement, please contact me before using it.

This may include:

Licensing an existing photograph for a new project
Use by a business, publication or organization that was not part of the original assignment
Commercial or advertising use not covered by an existing agreement
Resale, merchandise or other products incorporating a photograph
Other uses not addressed by the original license or client agreement

Licensing terms and fees depend on the image and intended use.

Photo Credit

When photo credit is required or appropriate, please credit the photographer as:

For photographs created on assignment for a business, organization or other client, publication credit may also identify the client that commissioned or provided the image. A preferred format is:

Including the client in the credit is encouraged when appropriate. It identifies the organization that made the photography possible and gives the client additional visibility when the image appears in news coverage, publications or other third-party uses.

If a publication uses a different standard credit format, equivalent wording that identifies both Steve Lenz Photography and the commissioning client is appropriate.

Image Integrity and Metadata

Reasonable cropping, resizing and reproduction adjustments may be appropriate for an authorized use. Please preserve embedded creator, copyright and licensing metadata whenever practical.

Uses that substantially change the meaning or context of a photograph should be discussed before publication unless they are already permitted by the applicable client agreement.
